Western Sicily Tour: Erice, Segesta, Trapani Salt Flats & Castellammare del Golfo
Four iconic destinations in one epic day across Sicily's western coast.
Start with Segesta, where a perfectly preserved Greek temple stands alone in the rolling countryside, untouched for over 2,400 years. Few places in the Mediterranean offer this kind of raw, unfiltered encounter with antiquity. The ancient theatre above it commands sweeping views all the way to the sea.
Continue to Erice, a medieval stone village perched at 750 metres above sea level. Wrapped in clouds and myth, Erice offers cobblestone streets, Norman castle ruins, and panoramic views stretching from the Egadi Islands to Cape San Vito. Don't leave without trying the famous almond pastries from the town's legendary pastry shops.
Next, descend to the Trapani Salt Flats, where windmills and geometric salt pans create one of Sicily's most striking and photogenic landscapes. This centuries-old tradition of sea salt harvesting is still alive today, and the light here, especially in the late afternoon, is unforgettable.
The day concludes in Castellammare del Golfo, a picturesque fishing town hugging a turquoise bay, dominated by its iconic Arab-Norman castle jutting out over the water. A perfect place to wind down before the drive back.
